This is a troll blog, if you act indignent consider yourself trolled hard. :)
Also, I'd like to see a moratorium on how terrible and shallow and marginalizing the music industry is.
Have there been songs about that, or did you mean in general?
Well, there's both of Sara Bareilles's singles (though the first one lays it between the lines), Nickelback's "Rockstar," Ben Folds' "Rockin' the Suburbs," and about half a dozen other utterly forgettable recent songs, going back at least as far as Billy Squier's "The Stroke," Billy Joel's "The Entertainer," Rush's "The Spirit of Radio," and of course, Pink Floyd's "Have a Cigar."
Ah yes, "Rockstar", I agree, Songs about "being in it for the music unlike those other phonys" need to diaf. Apparently, doing something for "the right reasons" makes the end product better.
I once saw a short comic online somewhere that showed a picture of Chad Kroeger singing "IIIIIIII wanna be a rock staaaar..." and then some guy came up to him and said "Yes, Chad Kroeger, yes you do," and then Chad Kroeger got this really sad look on his face and hung his head in shame.Christ, do I hate Nickelback. For "Rockin' the Suburbs," at least, I never saw it as that sort of song. I always read it as self-deprecating more than anything; Ben Folds understands that his audience is primarily suburban and that all that shit applies to him, so it was really more of an "I'm a lamer, too" song. Of course, I could be totally wrong.
The above-mentioned comic.
That's because you are a ben folds fanboi. One of these days you will see the light, and realize ben folds sucks.Nice comic though
Agreed about "Rockin' the Suburbs," Akusai, but it's self-deprecating in the "there's no real creativity; everything is corporate production" way.And Wikinite: I have a hard time denying Ben Folds' awesomeness after "Bitches Ain't Shit." And "Effington."
Nickelback, American Idol and Guitar Hero have destroyed the US and Canadian music scenes. People who should also stop:Alanis MorrisetteThe Dixie ChicksAll "pop" countryHinderBuckcherryThere are more, but I don't want to puke in my mouth anymore.
Admittedly, I've only ever listen to one or two of their songs, but I kind of like Buckcherry. Maybe it's just a guilty pleasure.
